I was hospitalized AGAIN, this time just as a precausion, between the constant headaches and rising blood pressure, my doctor just did not want to take any chances. After my 34 week appointment on Thursday, I checked right in. This time I took with me some things that reminded me of home, and that would keep me comfortable. I have my "mom" blanket that Faith had made for me. It has all the girls on it, and of course my grandson. I also have my bible and my Tony Evans journals. By Sunday, the 23rd, I woke up feeling like today would be a good relaxing day. My husband came in from work, and we ordered breakfast. Before I could even drink my coffee, my doctor came in excited. He said that TODAY would be the day. I really did not want to give birth on 10/23 for silly reasons when I think back on it. I was foolish to think that the day was tainted. I had to be patient and ralsize this is the day, that the LORD has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. So there it went off to have my first c-section. With my husband and my mother by my side I prayed and I went into a unfamiliar place. The thought of being awake while in surgery was crazy to me. My nurse was so sweet and a trememdous blessing. She coached me through the entire process. The anestegiolist came in and began asking me a series of questions. He then applied a cold substance on my back. I was told to breath as the needle entered into my back through a series of stages. It felt like exactly what it was, a needle being inserted into my spine. I felt pressure and pain. But I could not move. That was the hardest part. I leaned into my thin nurse, like a girl does her best friend. Soon it was over. I sat on the hard cold bed, and tried my best to lay flat as the nurse instructed, my growing belly preventing me from breathing, I tried my best to get comfortable. Although I could feel no pain, my nerves were still on 100. I looked around the imtimidating room at all the medical instruments. I wonder what they all would be used for. I wondered even more what my baby would look like, how would she smell, how would she feel, how would she respond to this new world. Several people were giving me instructions and I was so confused. My doctor came in like a super hero and got right to work. I felt pulling, like someone was playing a unfair game of tug a war with my belly. Spencer talked from the baby station in the left rear of the room to me head. The remainder of my body covered with a royal blue drape. No one talked to me, but every now and then the anestesiologist did. He wanted to ensure my pain level was managed. My husband seemed nervous, and it was no comforting me like in the movies. I guess he still bothered that this was really happening today, or may be it was the comment my mother made earlier that day. Or maybe he was wishing his won mother were still here to share this miracle. I tried not to put much thought into it. Sometimes as wives we want to know our husbands thoughts but honestly if we knew half of what they were thinking, we would be angry. So I gave him grace. I had to reach for his hand. I made him comfort me in that moment. Then I heard the doctor yell for him behind the drape. Looking worried, I wanted to know what was the big reveal. Turns out her cord was wrapped around twice. So this really is the day that the LORD has made. 3 seconds later, my husband was handed Legaci Eveanna Washington. 5 pounds 6 oz. 19 inches. When I saw her, my heart melted, like warm snow. She is perfect. Fearfully and wonderfully made. TTo God be the glory.
